Description of work and experience, in general
I have been a learning materials developer for almost nine years now and have worked with many public and private training providers including SETAs, universities, training companies and corporates to produce learning materials for a vast numer of training courses.I have also written many courses that have had to be aligned to SA unit standards and have even had the dubious pleasure of writing some USs myself.
Over the years I have worked on courses ranging from soft skills, HR management, financial management for school principals, computer science, English communication and writing skills, secondary grain handeling, nursing, corporate social investment, education law and more. These have spanned ABET level courses to courses at NQF level 5 and 6.
Most recently
This year, amongst other things, I have
- developed materials from scratch for a client on Program Portfolio Management under license from the PMI in the US.
- completed an ABET English course for a client on English communication skills
- a national textbook for grade 10 learners on English skills to be published by Best Books
In 2007
For the year of 2007, I also freelanced and did research and development on a number of courses for Cida Learning. I also taught instructional design and distance education at a university abroad and consulted in their distance learning centre.
Just prior to 2007
I worked as the chief learning materials developer and learning materials development project manager at the University of Pretoria's Unit for Distance Education for five years, before resigning to freelance on a full time basis from March 08.
